Anyone who owns a vehicle is all too familiar with the need for an auto tune up or automotive repairs. There is the regular need for oil change service, the need to check engine light from time to time and, of course, the need for auto AC repair ever so often. Much more serious than car AC repair, though, is the need for brake repair which should not be ignored when necessary. Every vehicle owner in Sarasota, Florida 34233, therefore, needs an ASE certified auto repair shop to rely on for all automotive repairs and auto tune up services.

ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence. ASE certification is given by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, an independent non-profit entity which was founded in 1972 for the sole purpose of improving the quality of vehicle service and repair in the United States. This is done through voluntary testing and certification of automotive service professionals and technicians. Testing is administered through ACT, another independent non-profit institution that offers various tools for assessment, research, information, and program management in the development of the workforce.

ASE certification is categorized into industry-driven specialties covering all segments of vehicle servicing. In order to achieve ASE certification, an individual needs to have documentation for at least two years of relevant work experience and pass a minimum of one specialty test. Once certification is achieved, it must be renewed every five years by undergoing retesting. Testing is made convenient with written tests scheduled twice a year with a choice of more than 750 testing sites all over the US. Some computer-based tests are conducted at 200 locations also twice a year.

Automotive service professionals and technicians who are ASE-certified are authorized to wear the blue and white ASE insignia. Their employers can also display their credentials in the shop and use the ASE signage. Auto repair shops are qualified for the elite ASE Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition Program (BSRP) if they have at least 75% of their automotive service professionals and technicians ASE-certified, and if every service they offer is represented by a minimum of one ASE-certified technician. The ASE Blue Seal of Excellence comes with a wall plaque, counter mat and a promotional kit. The repair shop will also be listed in the BSRP shop locator of the ASE website. All ASE certified auto repair shops with the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence are evaluated annually so that certification credentials are always updated and maintained.

Vehicle owners can, therefore, be assured of excellent service provided by well trained and highly skilled professional technicians when going to an ASE certified auto repair shop. The ASE website lists the following top 10 benefits that automotive service professionals and technicians get from being ASE-certified:

1.ASE certification proves professional credentials covering both knowledge and experience.

2.ASE certification shows commitment to the highest standards of automotive service and repair.

3.ASE certification enhances the image of automotive service professionals.

Auto repair shops

Question by Jenica Dianne: Is auto repair shop auto-repair shops required to submit all repairs to carfax?
I’m mainly wondering if auto-repair shops are required to submit all repairs to carfax. Are all repairs from auto-body shops are supposed to be reported? What is reported and what isn’t. If someone has a dent removed from a car door and fixed at a repair shop, is it reported? Is it against the law if they don’t report it?

Each auto repair shop is carefully selected and categorized into its service specialties. Giving consumers the ability to quickly search through the database for a qualified repair facility for their auto needs.

http://www.MechanicAdvisor.com allows its visitors to search their auto repair shop database through an array of different variables; including zip code, service needs, and auto type. For Auto Professionals and visitors that already have an auto repair shop in mind, the site offers a “add your repair shop” section which includes a comments section, allocated for auto shop reviews. In addition, MechanicAdvisor.com offers a detailed form for auto shop owners looking to publish their auto shop on the site, which includes different advertising packages (currently a general repair shop posting is free of charge).

MechanicAdvisor.com also offers a “tips for searching for a repair shop” section for visitors that need some tips on finding the right auto repair shop for their needs.

“Searching Tips

How do you go about choosing an auto mechanic, especially if you are new to an area? Have you been burnt by an auto shop in past like so many have. If you do not research, your decision can prove costly when the repair is finished.

Our site offers a localized database of mechanics in your area and allows you to research their auto shop, services, bios, and read reviews. It is the most informative way to make your crucial decision of where to bring your vehicle. We display all relative information, especially if the auto mechanic is ASE certified.

ASE certified auto mechanics have undergone extensive training & tests. ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence and was founded in 1972 by the National Institute for Automotive Excellence and have since certified more than 400,000 automotive professionals.

Use our database to search for mechanics that meet your auto needs and are ASE certified.”http://www.mechanicadvisor.com

MechanicAdvisor.com has built their site as not only a resource for consumers searching for a local auto repair shop but also to give the repair an online presence.

“Our objective is to have customers’ review and post recommendations on the site. In July of 2006, there were over 700,000 internet searches for ‘Auto repair’ research (Network Solutions). However, MechanicAdvisor.com will be the first site directly related to those searches and the only one displaying customer reviews.” Robert Gendron (MechanicAdvisor.com CIO)

People have body work done all the time that doesn’t get reported to CarFax. If a police report is never filed and nothing has been reported to the manufacturer from work done at dealership under warranty, odds are that CarFax won’t konw about it.

    Hope this helps.

    No.

Auto repair shops, insurance companies etc are not required to submit information to Car Fax. About the only ones that do are dealerships. If you go to an independent shop – it won’t be reported to Car Fax.

The thing to remember, Car Fax is a for profit company. They are not a government agency. They collect information and sell it.

Why would a company, such as a repair shop or insurance company, give their customers data away so someone else can sell it and make money? Most don’t. They are not going to violate their customers trust so another company can make a buck.
